Elements of a water fountain

• Closed circuit In modern fountains, water circulates under pressure through a closed water circuit. The circuit ensures sufficient flow for its proper operation thanks to the other control elements.
• The water pump The water pump provides the necessary pressure to circulate the water through the circuit, overcoming the height difference inherent in the closed circuit.
• The filter In any fountain, but especially in outdoor fountains, a filter is necessary to remove particles from the water and prevent them from reaching or obstructing the pump or any other mechanism.
• Water supply Normally, the water supply for the fountain is a task carried out at the beginning of the installation to fill the circuit. However, it is necessary to foresee the possibility of refilling the circuit due to water losses, mostly caused by evaporation.
• Overflow control Likewise, in outdoor fountains, we must have an effective overflow control system that rain could cause.
• Clean water maintenance It is important to keep the water clean and not allow the formation of thin green layers formed by tiny algae.
• Decorative elements The pond, the fountain, and the pressurized water jets are part of the different elements that can be enhanced with other decorative elements such as sculptures or mosaics.
• Lighting Finally, the lighting and electrical installation involved in the operation of the fountain, with the water pump and the different control systems.

Outdoor and indoor fountains

Although it is most common to build fountains outdoors, more and more buildings, houses, and spaces are opting for indoor fountains.

Special fountains

There are special types of water fountains that, due to their resemblance to certain natural environments, are known as artificial waterfalls. Their design, operation, and construction are essentially the same as those of a fountain with all its respective elements.
